Danmarks Bedste Maskot, aka Mascot Mania was an original game show like you have never seen it before: Sports disciplines met reality; passionate fighting spirit met fluffy cuteness; outrageous competitions met dedication from another world.
Usually you see the mascots representing different cities’ sports clubs, cheering from the side line, but now it’s time to put the mascots in focus letting them be the athletes. They can run, jump, dance and entertain. But who will succeed in becoming Denmark’s best mascot?
Throughout the seven episodes, mascots from different leading Danish sport clubs was competing against each other, hoping to become Denmark’s best mascot. Each week one mascot was eliminated from the programme and in the end there would be only one mascot remaining – the winner.
The mascots was competing in various disciplines – disciplines defining the good mascot, such as strength, fastness, motor skills etc. This included elements such as “Catch the Streaker” where the mascots chase naked people, or the “VIP Segway Race” where the mascots must balance and serve champagne to the sport VIP’s in a table set maze, or being the fastest one driving on motorized toilettes in hope of winning the half time-entertainment.
All of this is happening within a realistic sports frame where the mascots were all representing real clubs, and the disciplines was a battle of life or death. All programmes were covered like real sport events in TV implying super slow cameras, field reports, and reference to the biggest sport battles throughout the world.
The format included lots of humor, alliances, seriousness, dedication and characters you are going to you love. It was a battle between wolves, bears, ducks and swans. Some of the mascots had wings instead of hands, some had giant feet, and some could barely see anything in their mascot costume. Common for all of them was their will to fight and to bring glory to their respective clubs.
Wearing a silly costume just got serious.
